I generally stick to my list/meal plan when I’m doing my food shopping to save money and avoid wasting, but every once in a while, something will catch my eye and I’ll make an exception. Last week, it was the giant box of ripe, juicy, organic plums that I couldn’t say no to…
Plums are great for your health. They are full of phytonutrients, contain a high amount of fiber, keeping your colon healthy and lowering cholesterol, and a high amount of vitamin C, which can aid in iron absorption and maintain a healthy immune system.
Plums aren’t one of the most popular fruits due to their tartness, but that’s what I love about them. Their tanginess lends itself well towards this tart, low sugar smoothie and pairs well with the acidity from the lemon. The berries add a hint, though not too much, of sweetness to balance out the smoothie. If you prefer more sweetness, I would suggest adding honey or replacing the lemon juice with water.
Tangy PlumBerry Smoothie
- 2 plums, chopped with skin on
- 1/2 cup frozen berries
- 1/3 cup plain yogurt
- Juice from 1/2 lemon
- Blend all ingredients in a high speed blender (I use the smoothie attachment on my Ninja) and enjoy
I’ve added this smoothie into my weekly rotation and am admittedly disappointed that my plum stash is depleting. If I can find more (or practice self control with the few I have left), I have a plum-berry cobbler on my radar!
Till next time,
