One of the questions that I am asked most frequently, when talking to people about my lifestyle, is “so what do you eat all day, salad?” While there certainly are quite a few things that I have eliminated from my diet (processed foods, refined grains), I wouldn’t say that I just eat salad!
It’s a common misconception that people who eat organic, real food have limited, boring choices and eat very little of anything actually tasty. There are a ton of delicious, whole foods that make ditching processed junk in favor of healthy, nutrient dense meals easy and enjoyable for anyone on a daily basis.
Here’s what I ate on a random day last week…
Breakfast: most days start with a smoothie…they are quick to throw together when you rush every morning of your life like I do, and agrees with my sensitive stomach first thing in the morning.
Snack: apple with raw almond butter
Lunch: Sprouted bread with fresh mozz, tomato, and homemade pesto (made on the George Foreman grill – it gives it a grill quality without the added oil/butter).
Snack: raw veggies with hummus.
Dinner: taco night!!! Lean protein, lots of veggies, and GUAC! Followed by one of my favorite organic beers =) (yes, I drink, and I believe that alcohol can be part of a real food lifestyle).
Eating real food throughout the week is easier than you think! Meal prepping has a lot to do with it (I chop a ton of veggies to snack on and use in meals on Sunday) and living so close to where I work affords me the opportunity to eat healthy at home for lunch. I incorporate fruits and veggies into every meal or snack and make sure my daily meals include protein and healthy fats. I treat myself with small indulgences (like organic ale!) and make sure to dish up meals that are appealing (especially for A), like tacos. Finding the balance is key, and over time, I have found that my body craves healthier, unprocessed foods.
Today, I’m linking up with Jenn’s WIAW, because I want to show how easy and tasty it is to eat real food on a daily basis…and because looking at food is fun!
